Fitness Rating: Moderate
Day 1: Monday
After an hours flight from Port Vila, your tour leader, Kalo, will meet you at Lamap airport on south Malekula Island. From Point Doucere it's a 30 minute boat ride to Malog Bunglows on picturesque Maskelyne Island. Nina, Kalo’s wife, will welcome you and show you to your room where you can leave your spare clothes and other non-essential items. Over lunch Kalo will brief you on your journey ahead and all safety requirements (2 people per canoe plus tour guide). You will depart after lunch on a traditional outrigger canoe and make your way to Sakao Island- trawling as you go. After setting up camp you will cook a delicious dinner including your catch and local organic fresh vegetables.
Day 2: Tuesday
Start your day with early morning fishing off the reef. Breakfast with local bread and homemade jam, fruits, and herbal teas.
In true hunter/ gatherer style you will assist your expert tour guide in collecting fresh fruits, nuts and vegetables from the surrounding jungle for your own island BBQ lunch. In the afternoon spear fish off the reef and spend the evening hunting land crabs in the mangroves near camp.
Day 3: Wednesday
Start your day with an early morning fish on the reef nearby before setting off for the next island after breakfast. Trawl on your way to Pakatel Island and arrive to lunch on your land crab catch. After lunch you will paddle to Sugarlump Reef to try your hand spearfishing with your guide. Before sunset you will paddle back to Malog Bungalows and settle in for the night with a Island Buffet complete with local string band music, kava, and dancing (if you feel like it!).
Day 4: Thursday
Your Tour Leader Kalo will take you on an open water trawling adventure from 5-9am in his own motor boat. After a late breakfast you will have time to pack up before departing for the airport around 11am.
